Professional development helps you become a more well-rounded professional by diversifying how you focus your learning. Every ADVANCE Plan includes activities in 6 areas:
Patient Care
A core competency of the pharmacy profession is providing patient care. Regardless of your role, you must be well versed on current trends and new advances in patient care. Through this section in your plan, you will identify activities and experiences focused on improving your skills and abilities in patient care.
Management
Regardless of your role or position, all members of the pharmacy profession have management responsibilities. From time management constraints, to adapting to changes in workflow, and to dealing with difficult patients or coworkers, strengthening your management skills and abilities will allow you to be more effective.
Leadership
Everyone has the potential to lead from where they stand. Patients look to health care professionals as leaders. From learning more about yourself to discovering your professional purpose, to serving in leadership roles within your community, enhancing your leadership abilities is a critical component of your professional development.
Community Service
Health care professionals have a responsibility to give back to the communities they serve. Engaging in community service has many benefits, including solidifying trust, enhancing the public’s positive view of the pharmacist, and helping you discover or reinforce your personal purpose.
Scholarly Activities
Contributing to the next generation through precepting and teaching, contributing to the literature, and engaging in activities that promote the value of the profession to our patients are scholarly activities. Think about all the people who have taught, mentored, and guided you throughout your career and how valuable their insights have been. Participating in scholarly activities is your opportunity to pay it forward.
Well-Being
Taking responsibility for yourself and your well-being increases your fulfillment and satisfaction in your career and personal life. Intentionally taking actions to make your life better, whether through short-term activities or long-term commitments, is an integral part of your professional development plan.
